Slioch sunset
Glacial erratics on the banks of Loch Maree and Slioch at sunset
I'd spotted this boulder field whilst driving alongside Loch Maree a couple of days previously but had not seen an obvious place to park, so on this evening, knowing the conditions would be perfect I resolved to explore the area.
Some of the erratics dumped here on the banks of the loch as the ice receded at the end of the last glacial period are truly immense and must weigh several 10s of tonnes.
The boulders are lit at sunset only in high summer as the surrounding peaks of Torridon to the west block the sun at other times as it sets further to the south-west.
